From August 15 to November 15 every fall, seemingly ordinary parks, overlooks and vantage points in Canada, the United States and Mexico become some of the hottest pieces of real estate of the year. Thousands of volunteers, researchers, and folks who just plain love hawks gather at observation points of choice and watch for the first signs of millions of southbound hawks. The peak migration for the fall season at Hazel Bazemore County Park occurs somewhere around the third weekend in September, with flights of over 300,000 hawks a day on peak passage days. The "Celebration of Flight" programs are designed to offer watch visitors an in-depth look at why and how hawk watches are conducted and show why conservation and rehabilitation efforts are important for raptors and for man.
