From August 15 to November 15 every fall, seemingly ordinary parks, overlooks and vantage points in Canada, the United States and Mexico become some of the hottest pieces of real estate of the year. Thousands of volunteers, researchers, and folks who just plain love hawks gather at observation points of choice and watch for the first signs of millions of southbound hawks. The peak migration for the fall season at Hazel Bazemore County Park occurs somewhere around the third weekend in September, with flights of over 300,000 hawks a day on peak passage days. The "Celebration of Flight" programs are designed to offer watch visitors an in-depth look at why and how hawk watches are conducted and show why conservation and rehabilitation efforts are important for raptors and for man.

Programs planned for the 4-day celebration:

• Hawk identification presentations and aids by counters, volunteers and HawkWatch, International (all 4 days, multiple sessions)
• Raptor migration - what and why and where by HawkWatch, International (all 4 days, multiple sessions)
• Satellite telemetry tracking hawks by HawkWatch, International (all 4 days, multiple sessions)
• Why do we watch and count hawks? Program by HawkWatch, International (all 4 days, multiple sessions)
• Last Chance, Forever raptor rehabilitation - live hawk demonstration & education (Saturday, September 29 at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm)
• Native American blessing of the watch, plus the roles of hawks and eagles in Native American song, dance and religion (Sunday, September 30; starts around 9:00 am)
