Hello from The Hill! It's Saturday, October 28, 2000. Jo Creglow files the day's report:
BV 10
TV 76
SS 1
SW 2
UA 2
UU 2
TOTALS 93 whole birds in that cloudy sky today. As Jo noted: Well. Oh well.
Jo notes in her report two new day birds for the list, a verdin (that's a great bird any time around here) and a yellow throated vireo. One intrepid birder not only got the yellow-throated vireo, but got three other vireos that had been seen previously during the watch, all in the same morning (blue-headed, solitary and white-eyed, I think; sorry, neither Jo nor I wrote them down ... oh well).
By the way, for those accessing the Texas Hawk Watches pages for reports and information, as well as these posts, the dailies and spreadsheets for Hazel and dailies for Smith Point haven't been updated since last Wednesday. That's the last day I had FTP access to the account. The ISP assured me Friday they're looking into the problem. Hopefully it'll be back up soon. I've got everything ready to upload, as soon as the access is restored. Thanks for your patience and sorry about the inconvenience.

Hazel Bazemore County Park is in western Nueces County, Texas, west of the central Gulf Coast city of Corpus Christi. To find it, take FM624 west from SH77 for about 1 mile to the road on the right with a park sign marking it (past a Dollar Store and cancer treatment center, on the right). The park road is just on the west side of the water canal that crosses FM624. Across the street is a car wash. Turn north and take the park road; go one half mile to the park entrance gate. To reach the fall hawk watching spot, take the park entrance, make a left as soon as you get across the speed bump, and follow the winding road to the crest of the hill (past the restrooms, a covered picnic pavilion and around the next bend). Where the road makes a bend to the left, start looking for a place to park. Watch times: 8:30am-5:00pm, Texas time.
