November 2, 1999
Hello everyone, there were over 6,000 birds today. Of course, about
6,000
of them were geese (mostly snow geese). Despite a gusty 25 mph wind,
many
hawks were on the move too. Everything was low because of that wind,
which was from the northwest and pushed the birds right over the
tower.
Have recorded more adult accipiters and harriers recently. Also saw a
total of 14 sandhill cranes.
40 Turkey Vulture
1 Osprey
1 White-tailed Kite
10 Northern Harrier
22 Sharp-shinned Hawk
18 Cooper's Hawk
13 Broad-winged Hawk
4 Swainson's Hawk
18 Red-tailed Hawk
27 American Kestrel
1 Merlin
1 Unid. accipiter
1 Unid. falcon
157 Total Hawks
Until tomorrow,
