September 11, 1999
Hello everyone, thanks to Charles Hoffman, Patty Beasley, and Petra
Hockey for your comments on the mystery bird I saw on Thursday. Having
considered these comments I am now pretty sure that I it was an immature
White-tailed Hawk. I simply did not consider that at the time and just
ended up being confused.
Thanks also to Winnie Burkett and Dick Benoit for counting every Friday
(Winnie) and Saturday (Dick) while I enjoy some "down time." Here's what
they saw:

Friday, 9-10-99

52 Mississippi Kite
1 Northern Harrier
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk
2 Cooper's Hawk
55 Broad-winged Hawk
13 American Kestrel
7 Unidentified Buteo

131 Total Hawks

Saturday, 9-11-99

42 Mississippi Kite
4 Northern Harrier
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk
1 Cooper's Hawk
208 Broad-winged Hawk
3 Swainson's Hawk
8 American Kestrel

267 Total Hawks

Until tomorrow,
Kyle McCarty
