I apologize for the delay in getting information out. I have been at
Smith
Point and we haven't got the computer hooked up down there. That may
happen
any day now.
This unsettled weather we are having seems to have almost stopped
hawk
migration. It would be fascinating to understand the mechanisms involved.
Are
upper winds adverse? Local Vultures are finding thermals, swallows are
still
migrating. There are always more questions than answers.

I met Dick Benoit at the tower at sunrise and it was gorgeous. The first
two
hours we had good numbers of swallows mostly Cliff. We were working at on
the
wing id's, a challenge; What can you see on the back? What can
you see on
the side? Do they flap differently?
Our hummingbird feeder was busy with hummingbird wars.
Frigatebirds were up early. 4 males together close.
Clouds were gorgeous.
10 am 1 Broad-wing but I don't think he was going anywhere
1045 it started raining so we headed for the cars.
1130 it stopped raining and we went back up the tower. Dick looked at me
and
suggested we might want to go back down as my hair was standing up.
There
were thunderstorms all around.
I went and had lunch at the VFD
The total hawks for the day was
1 Broadwing who wasn't going anywhere.
We have had vultures but they aren't going anywhere either.
