Southweest winds seem to have slowed the raptors down at Smith Point.
The
heat slowed this hawk watcher. Swallows and gnatcatchers are not
slowed down
by much. Royal terns and skimmers are still flyinging over the tower
with
fish for their chicks on the new bird island. Frigatebirds enjoyed
the
thermals, we had 3 males together over the tower which is unusual as
we
usually have only a few males in the area.
Last week I had a first for the hawk watch , chickadees, they were
there
again this week. I wonder if they are moving around this year. This is my
9th
fall watching and listening to fall at Smith Point and every year it
is
different.
