Hazel Bazemore Hawk Watch, Fall 1999
Date:
Hi everyone, another quickie, tonight; here's Joel's report:
-------------------
Fernando and Ryan had a good day on the hill with better than average numbers for this time of year and eleven species for the day. The bird of the day was an outstanding close view of a dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk.
At 2:55 PM it glided by so low that Chuck and Steve, both of whom have spent many hours at the watch and have experience with this species from living in California and Alaska, identified it naked eye!! Of course Fernando and Ryan had to note every field mark in order for me to put it on the count. I'm not really that tough (well maybe I am) but they certainly convinced me.
