Hazel Bazemore Hawk Watch
08-25-99

Looks like Hurricane Bret didn't hold back the hawks any. Matter of fact, we're rolling right along, especially with swallow-tailed kites (wouldn't you know it!). Joel and I figured today would be a good day; aftermath of whatever back up Bret might provide. Hawks came through, all right:

Patty,

You were right, today was a very good day for raptors. Of course starting the day with three Swallow-tailed Kites, together, low, and putting on an aerial show sure helps. Many kettles of Anhingas and one good kettle of Mississippi Kites that contained 220 came during the middle of the day.

1 Osprey
3 Swallow-tailed Kite
376 Mississippi Kite
1 Broad-winged Hawk
1 Swainson's Hawk
1 Red-tailed Hawk

Total 383

Dickie (other) bird list:
Anhinga (2230)
Wood Stork (81)
Groove-billed Ani (9)
Black Tern (3)
White Ibis (42)
Black-bellied Whistling Duck
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Common Nighthawk (8)
Kiskadee (9)
Baltimore Oriole
