Hazel Bazemore Hawk Watch, Texas
08-20-99
Greetings all,
That little thunderstorm south of us (I think they're still calling it Tropical Storm Bret, at the moment) isn't affecting the flights yet, and today's flight was very nice, according to Joel and Fernando's report:
----------------------
2....Swallow-tailed Kite
501..Mississippi Kite
1....Red-shouldered Hawk
1....Broad-winged Hawk
8....Swainson's Hawk
1....Red-tailed Hawk
2....Harris' Hawk
1....Crested Caracara
1....Unidentified Buteo
518..Total
-----------------------
The watch is doing well on those beautiful Swallow-tailed Kites this early in the season. Fernando reports one of the kites was considerate enough to circle the watch a few times, giving observers nice, close looks. Joel reports he was doing his civic duty at Kiwanis and missed the whole thing. That's okay, Joel, so far neither you nor I have seen one of these guys yet. Maybe the rest of us will luck out this weekend; we're certainly overdue!
Support your local watches, keep that chocolate stocked, and keep looking up!
Cheers,
Patty
