Another day of clear skies & a steady stream of raptors. The accipiters,
Sharpies in particular, got off to an early start. A larger number of
Mississippi Kites than in recent days passed through, possibly due to the
NE wind. It was a good day for variety, with a total of ten raptor
species counted, and a good day for visitors. The participants in the
field trip lead by Winnie Burkett did not leave disappointed. Thanks to
everyone for the help today. Since most of the birds were coming through
in singles, pairs, or small groups rather than the usual kettles, extra
eyes were appreciated. As the season progresses, the days are getting
long for us full-timers & we savor any breaks we can get. A reminder that
we also welcome anyone with confidence in their hawk ID skills to
volunteer their time as an official counter for a day. Remember that the
more time you spend on the tower, the more birds you will see! If
interested, contact us by e-mail.
ciao..........rebecca
