The weather was far from ideal today -rain throughout the day kept
us
running up and down the watchtower steps seeking shelter from
precipitation & some lightning. The Swallow-tailed Kites graced
us & our
visitors with their presence several times. One group of three
was
particularly stunning as it flew in almost overhead. Not a lot
else was
happening out there. until tomorrow....

Today (Sunday 8/23/98) was a wet one for the Smith Point Hawk Watch,
however there was a decent raptor count as posted earlier by Hawk
Watcher
Rebecca Smith. There were also notable non-raptor migrants counted
between
the hours of 11am-4 pm despite the almost continuous showers.

A special thanks to the seven hearty visitors/assistant counters
to the

skies are
overcast!
