Hazel Bazemore Hawk Watch, Fall 1998

Report Date:  10/03/98

A dark morph Swainson's today! Slow on hawks overall, but that was pretty much expected. Weather east and north kept most everything in our flight path down, but the fronts have passed into Louisiana and we're looking for a better day tomorrow. Kirk Moulton, stand by; we're still on schedule and if that third wave is en route and on course, we should see something Sunday or Monday or so.

Brian and Lisa Wheeler were on the hill with us today and helped spot in the hawks. Brian presented the final talk tonight in the Celebration of Flight series on south Texas raptors. Brian's currently working on THREE books now, all due out around the year 2000, in addition to his artwork and photography. His slideshow tonight was literally breathtaking; some of the freeze-action shots are just amazing. Not many photogs can catch peregrines full bore in mid-stoop so clearly and so closely! Wow.
