Report Date: 09/19/98
A second day of five-digit counts. We're in it now! Broadwings came
mostly
in big gangs again, including one lengthy stream of a little over
9,000 in
midafternoon. How did those neck stretching exercises go again?
Sweltering heat today and practically no breeze til nearly watch
end; ozone
action day with a lot of haze that was deceptive, until the raptors
in view
suddenly "disappeared" as if transported into a Star Trek episode.
Hawks
were making full use of winds aloft; not much thermal action to
be found.
Did get a nice show again from a few more dueling harriers; they
and the
kestrels certainly seem to have "fun" during their flight, diving
and
feinting at each other on the way overhead.
Very nice looks at a few low birds: a lone broadwing, a beautiful
male
kestrel.
And once again, chocolate liberally applied to the counters sharpened
our
eyesight to a keen edge!
