Easiest report I've done all season. Saying the watch was rained out today just doesn't quite get the picture drawn; volunteers couldn't even GET to the watch site; too busy watching for the passing ark. Only thing flying today were shingles from our roofs. Watch area had 2.5-3.0 inches of rain. Bill and I had NINE inches at our house in less than four hours in south Corpus Christi. You can add dollar bills to the things flying around; our modem line AND our air conditioning are both down thanks to the weather, or gremlins, or something. We're told we're on a very long waiting list to get 'em back up and running. At least we have the house main line to post reports and email (and order pizza -- but not at the same time <grin!>!) -- wish we had some birds to post for you tonight.
Swainson's seem to be moving, though, so everyone keep sharp watch
and post, post, post to TexBirds to let us know what you're seeing and
where. Two reports yesterday of birds seen on 10/8 in the area (but not
countable, unfortunately; not at the watch site itself) - one group of
50 out west on FM624 from Corpus; the other a group of about 100 seen in
a field somewhere between San Antonio and Corpus. Winnie Burkett reports
1,000 near Kerrville. Could those be the 1,000 or so seen in Burleson County
a few days earlier?
