Hello everybody!
A renewed list after my study
trip to the Kalahari desert. I stayed in a tent-like building (poles
with roof, fenced off with chicken wire), to keep the lions out. It
kept them out, but they were still inquisitive and kept on checking
the perimeter. One morning we woke up with a male and female staring
at us from where the remains of the campfire were still smouldering
.... Pretty exciting, indeed! I've got some excellent pictures - some
are shown below.
More exciting stuff: cape cobra's
in sociable weaver's nests, fighting gemsbokken (South African oryx),
catching a springhare at night (by chasing it until you are
exhausted...), aardvarks digging holes (and they can dig, incredible),
amazing raptors (martial eagles are huge, and so are the vultures):
colourful bateleurs, weird gymnogenes, an abundance of chanting
goshawks and even a pygmy falcon pair. Check out
